Info : French tax notices (Avis d’impot) are being sent by the French tax administration
Tax notices are sent in August and September every year (or even later if your general returns were submitted after the end of June), even if there is no income tax to be paid.
The tax notice includes the following information :
• all of the incomes which have been declared ;
• the amount of income tax to pay ;
• the amount of the base tax income (“revenu fiscal de reference”) ;
• if any advance payment have been made, the amount of income tax left to be paid ;
• the addresses, phone numbers and opening hours of the tax offices of which you are depending.
So you should receive soon your 2008 tax notice if you have submitted your general returns before the 30th June 2009. If you have some income tax to pay for 2008, the deadline to pay this tax is the 15/09/2009.
Please note that you need to keep this document in your records. You will find your Fip number on it (registration number of your household to the French tax administration), that you will need to enter on your next year’s tax declaration.

Reminder : Land Tax to be paid before the 15/10/2009
If you were owning a French property on the 1rst January 2009, you are liable to the 2009 Land Tax.
The tax is calculated by local tax offices. So the amounts of land tax for the same type of property can be very different from one French area to the other.
The deadline to pay the 2009 land tax is the 15/10/2009. If this deadline is not respected, a 10% penalty is added to the original amount of the tax.
The land tax can be paid by cheque, payable to TRESOR PUBLIC. Your cheque needs to be sent with the payment slip attached to the land tax invoice (on the bottom of page 2) to the adress written on the payment slip (Centre d’Encaissement du Tresor Public…).
If you have a French bank account, you can pay by internet (with a withdrawal of the tax from your bank account 8 days after the deadline) or by TIP. For the latter, you need to date and sign the payment slip and to attach a RIB (French bank account details) if your bank account details are not already on the payment slip. You then need to send everything to the adress written on the payment slip (Centre d’Encaissement du Tresor Public…).
